Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
PROCESS
Faith-Based Recovery
Recovery is much more than sobriety. Recovery is the process of building a lifestyle that makes sobriety easy and worthwhile. There are far too many people in “recovery” who are focused on not using drugs and alcohol. The problem with this approach is that it keeps the individual focused on the drugs and alcohol. No one wants to live a life that’s based primarily on what they don’t want to do. Why not focus on what you would like to do with your life? We like to put it like this: What are you recovering to, rather than what are you recovering from.
Step Seven Ministries is a faith-based recovery community helping men find freedom from substance use, and teaching them the leadership skills necessary to move forward with their lives. Our recovery support program provides the structure and environment necessary to break free from the bondage and slavery of substance use. We believe that lasting and sustainable sobriety comes from a relationship with Jesus Christ.
The men in our ministry come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Many of them have tried traditional recovery methods only to see themselves fail time and time again. These same men are now finding forgiveness, strength, and freedom through a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
Step Seven Ministries is all about changing lives and restoring leaders to the community. When those struggling with drug and alcohol use come to the realization that they need help, their lives are often surrounded by negative circumstances and relationships, leaving them void of positives and accountability. Our aim is to replenish the positives and accountability through a program that consists of work, worship, and the Word, and focuses on the four major dimensions of recovery… home, health, purpose, and community.
Four Dimensions of Recovery
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is a branch of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. SAMHSA’s mission is to make research, services, and information more accessible to healthcare providers, as well as the general public, in the areas of substance use and mental health disorders.
SAMHSA has defined four major dimensions that support a life in recovery:
Home – Those in recovery must have a safe and stable place to live.
Health – Abstaining from the use of alcohol, illicit drugs, and non-prescribed medications, and make informed, healthy choices that support physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
Purpose – Conducting meaningful daily activities such as having a job or going to school, and the independence, income, and resources to participate in society.
Community – Those in recovery must have interdependent relationships that provide support, friendship, love, and hope.
How Our Program Works
Work – Having a regular job is a big deal. We want the men in our ministry to be productive members of society. Work offers them the opportunity to make progress toward life goals while providing purpose and restoring accountability, stability, and self-confidence. A key part of our program is to assist men in finding and keeping meaningful employment. We have connections with several employers in the community to bridge the gap towards a productive lifestyle.
Worship – By definition, worship is to be devoted to and full of admiration for something or someone. Everyone has a natural need to worship. It’s how we were created. One of the most important questions every person must answer is what or whom they will worship. Addiction is misplaced worship; addicts and alcoholics worship drugs and alcohol. Substance use is a failed attempt to find what can only be found in God. Through our faith-based recovery groups, sober-living homes, and church gatherings, we seek to help those in recovery replace false worship with true worship. God calls us to worship Him. At Step Seven Ministries, we believe that the choices we make about our worship are the choices that will have the most profound impact on the rest of our lives.
The Word – The Bible is undeniably God's Word. At Step Seven Ministries, the Bible is the criterion for all we do. It cannot be emphasized enough just how valuable God’s Word is in the recovery process. Addicts and alcoholics need a new way of thinking, with new values, if they are ever going to find success in sobriety. Our program revolves around the basic principles found in the Bible. Along with our seven steps, the recovery program at Step Seven Ministries includes a twelve-week discipleship course that helps develop the habit of spending time in the Bible every day.
